RUGBY TOURNAMENT

Last weekend, many rugby teams of the Asia-Pacific area (Singapore, Hong Kong, Australia, New Zealand) were taking part in the traditional Kuala Lumpur international tournament on EPSOM College grounds. Many LFKL youngsters gave great performances within the KL Tigers local team.

Courageous and full of energy, Timothée Grenade did his first tournament passes, tackles and runs in the U7 category.

In the U9 category, Georges Heim did not prove unworthy as he was introduced to the position of scrum half with the KL Tigers 2nd team. Their progress paid off in the end as they won their last game.

But it’s the U11 category that included the highest number of LFKL pupils, with Mathys Michel in the 1st team, Sixte Guiraud, Oscar Payan, Jean-Pierre Grenade and Devon in the 2nd team.

With a most positive outcome, our hopes in our little Frenchies was not misplaced: 1 win and 2 draws for the 2nd team and a brilliant 2nd place for the 1st team.  The latter unfortunately lost its finals after a series of 7 consecutive wins, defeated by a Singapore Tanglin team who proved well organised in the forward game.

No doubt that all the experience gained during this tournament will benefit our future champions, and that it will motivate them even more during the training sessions at LFKL (on Tuesdays and Thursdays). These good results also validate the coaches’ idea that rugby definitely belongs in LFKL, and that these youngsters could participate in a rugby PROZAP as early as 2020.
