• How long have you been teaching at LFKL?

I have been teaching at LFKL for two years.

• Why have you chosen to teach in LFKL?

I had previously worked at a french school in the AEFE network and so I knew the high standards that these schools hold. My previous school, in Sri Lanka, was a lot smaller and so I relished the opportunity to work in a larger establishment with the challenges and rewards that entails.

I was also attracted by the bright lights and hustle and bustle of Kuala Lumpur.

• What do you like about your profession?

I like the variety in my job. In a typical day, I teach English language, art, sport, and science. I work very closely with my colleagues and this is essential for providing the best learning environment for our students. I also enjoy the relationship I have with parents. Throughout my teaching career I have learned how valuable it is to have parents and teachers working closely to help their children achieve their potential.

• What type of projects have you organised so far with your students?

Every April there is an International Kid’s Yoga day and as I also teach yoga to children, I invited the preschool and primary classes to join me in the playground for just 5 minutes of yoga. I was overwhelmed by the response – we had around 200 children (and their teachers!) from 2.5 to 11 years old breathing and stretching together. I look forward to doing it again next year.

I like to expose my students to the variety of Anglophone festivals and celebrated worldwide – not just the most common. For my CP students, I organise a Thanksgiving group snack in which the children bring food from home and share with their year group. We usually prepare for the group snack with some art and music activities and, most important of all, discussing the sentiments of the holiday – gratitude, sharing, and appreciation.

• How would you characterise LFKL? What do you consider its key strengths?

As a teacher, and parent, I appreciate the consistency of the French School system abroad. The students follow the French programme but are also exposed to the diverse local culture through projects. I believe LFKL provides a rich experience for it’s students.

• How would you characterise students from LFKL? What do you expect from them?

Our students reflect the cultural diversity and multilingualism of Malaysia. They are bright, inquisitive, and curious about the world around them.

I encourage my students to take risks, and I expect them to try their best. I reassure them that making mistakes is part of the learning process.
